The Circle

As I began writing I could not get the lyrics of the pop song that goes "...boys will be girls and girls will be boys..." out of my mind. I saw a lot of ..well...boys being girls and girls being boys in the circle. Your trusty scribe himself was finding his 40-D underwire bra a bit uncomfortable in the searing heat. I digress.

It was a beautiful mid-summer evening as our  group of 100 or so Hashers gathered up to form some semblance of an orderly circle. Dreary begin the proceedings with his very well received..." Monday is a wankin' night...Tuesday is a rootin' night..." Hashing Week in Review song. Our fearless leader Wet One then led us through introductions of Hashers representing assorting republics, dominions, duchies developing and 3rd world nations. Now comes the really weird part...we actually left right on time (more or less) at 7pm! Possibly a first for the Calgary H3.

The Run and On In

The run itself followed a very logical, systematic route masterfully designed to show our visitors only the best that Calgary has to offer. Our itinerary included stops at the Regis Pub, Olympic Plaza, King Eddy Hotel , St. Louis Hotel, Palliser Parkade and, of course, Bottlescrew Bill's prior to our return to the downtown Holiday Inn for karaoke and beer.

Our trans-sexual, transvestite, smelly and somewhat inebriated group of Hashers were very well received by the liberal, upscale, open minded patrons of the Regis and King Eddy. We also made quite an impression on the youth gathered at Olympic plaza. Many of whom apparently aspire to be just like us when they grow up! Patrons at the St. Louis were thrilled to see the Honourable Ralph Klein pay a return visit. Bottlescrew's was... Bottlescrew's. Good beer as usual and thank you to our organizers for the delicious Alberta beef/ veggie meal that was provided.

After wearing out our welcome at Bottlescrew's it was back to the Holiday Inn for Down Downs, karaoke and more...beer! Prescilla Queen of the Desert as usual did a great job leading the karaoke. Dreary led off with his  traditional "Born to Be Wild" (eat your hearts our Steppenwolf!), later King Shit's "Thank Heaven for Little Girls", Shack Shock doing her best Shania Twain renditions, etc...

As the evening progressed my notes become, for some strange reason, much more difficult to read. Safe to say that the run/ karaoke was a lot of fun, much beer was consumed and many tunes were sung off key...

Tales From The Trail and Quotes:

That pretty much sums it up. After a Friday run that offered lots of fun, sexual misadventure, unusual odors, beer, good food and karaoke the groundwork was in place for the highlight to cum....Run #1000!!!

On On!
