Background

This Holiday Season is a time known for giving, sharing and kindness towards one's less fortunate fellow citizens. In this spirit of Christmas, Gnu Moon and co-hare King Shit generously hosted the Annual Boxing Day run at... where else? ... Gnu's soup kitchen. An estimated 25 down on their luck, less fortunate, often foul smelling (but still proud) Hashers arrived for the run shoddily attired in whatever clothing they had available... smelly T-shirts, unsanitary Lycra, discarded hats, boxer shorts, dirty socks, well worn running shoes and whatever else could be found. It was quite a sight as this downtrodden group met these generous angels of mercy... Gnu and Shit King. Gnu did his best to brighten spirits by wearing an outrageous court jesters hat he had recently recovered from a dumpster. Our thanks go out to our angels of mercy who were kind enough to take time away from family and friends to help the less fortunate burn away unwanted calories... then... put them on again later.

The Circle

The circle was held, appropriately enough, in an inner-city back alley. Our Jointmaster, Pick Your Part, did a good job helping the needy Hashers to maintain some semblance of dignity as they introduced themselves in the circle. Three Archives were then introduced. There were no new boots or visitors. As I recall announcements included an upcumming COGS ride, The 1000th Run/ price increase on January 1st, Left Bun's Stagette on January 5th and Knobby's Stag on January 6th, etc.. PYP then introduced the hares who stated that the run would be "...45 minutes tops!" and marked with "...B's for Boxing Day" or was it boxer shorts???

The Run

The run itself followed a somewhat east to south to west to north route with checkbacks every 1 to 2 kilometers. The run was very well marked in multicolored chalk. It included a visit to the Stampede Grounds, a snowball fight, a cemetery featuring Sir Hemorrhoids future burial plot, a monastery, a wild dog attack, a playground and a river crossing! All of this in a leisurely run with a distance estimated somewhere between 10 and 22 km!!!

Down Downs...

Down Downs were followed with Gnu Moon's "soup kitchen" where hungry, needy, down on their luck Hashers were provided with a good hot meal at this special time of year. The soup was excellent! Thank you Gnu!!
