1:55 pm. Sunday 3rd June and I reached for the cell-phone to see if the Hash really was on today, and if we were in the right place, after all no one else was in the Sandy Beach Car Park on this wet and miserable day. "You've reached the hotline .... Blah Blah Blah" ... well it had just reached the bit about the previous days RHM run when one of the hares - On In - appeared. Well that made 3 of us.

Over the next 15 minutes a few more arrived and we circled up at about 2:15. Dreary took the circle and as there were no New Boots, visitors, archives or announcements he introduced the Hares - himself and On In - who explained the usual marks to the small (but perfectly formed) pack

And we were off.

Well - sort of.

The Hares walked in the direction that the trail went, along with Hash Test Dummy. The rest of the pack (Lay'em In Snow, Left Bun, Lakey and P'tooey) rushed for the cars to pick up their respective Hash Hounds. So, with Hash Test Dummy as "the pack" we stayed at the back with our Dogs (as per hash rules, sorry, guidelines). This worked well for the first 100 metres or so until Hash Test decided she wanted to become a walker at the back of the pack.

CONFUSION!! Who were the Canines to follow now? There was no pack for them to stay behind!!

Sensing a Once-In-A-Lifetime opportunity Chase dragged Left Bun onwards .... she was fropping! Not to be outdone, Crazy Horse followed (with the appropriate stops to mark trees and bushes).

At the first check Chase lost the lead as she refused the water crossing. Crazy Horse - a veritable water dog - dashed in to the water, sensing the flagging on the other side. Most of the pack followed - except Left Bun and Chase, who has decided that this swimming thing wasn't all that it was cracked up to be and would rather stay here with On In and Lakey. Next Crazy Horse lost the lead as a particularly interesting bush came up and P'tooey decided to pick up a golf ball. Lay'em and Luca rushed to the front of the pack, only to stop a few metres further on as Luca decided that this muddy spot would make a particularly good place for a nice roll on the back. Never mind - she was able to was it off a few moments later as P'tooey found a check back and we all had to wade back across the river.

It was about this time that Tiny Bubbles appeared (it's a different time zone in Brentwood you know) - just in time to cross the river again! So off we went -a cross the river and up the bank, a check back up to the top of the hill, through the bushes, across the pathway and then along the edge of the riverbank (in the river of course).

Finally, we reached the suspension bridge - Check Back! Of course the trail went through the river and then back on in to the parking lot where there was much changing of clothes before rushing off to the bar in case the Beer Loot Beer ran out.

In Cyclone we all circled up (around a table) and Lakey bravely stepped in to take hash cash. Dreary called us to order and asked P'tooey to down the Hares: Dreary and On In. Dreary then took over and proceeded with the rest of the down-downs. Lay'em in Snow was downed for telling Luca "Don't Fish" during a river crossing.

Why? Is she any good at it? Could she get me a nice Salmon for my supper??

Next up was Tiny Bubbles for managing to cross the river in the deepest bit possible and having to swim/flounder out of it.

Left Bun was downed for her (and Chase's) lack of commitment by only going half-way on the first river crossing. You tell she's married now!

Hash Test Dummy was downed for another water offence - carrying her cell-phone and beeper on the run and trying to keep them dry during the river crossing.

Surprisingly, Lakey was downed for being stupid and following Tiny Bubbles into the deep bit of the river.

Finally, P'tooey was downed for doing his best Krusty impression and trying to run all the check-backs and following the trail all the way.

So we finished off our beer and left the bar, leaving only a muddy puddle on the floor where Dreary had been sitting.

The CH3 18th Birthday hash was over - and (according to On In) was not quite the worst attendance on record. Left Bun also thanked the Hares for setting the 2nd CH3 Dog Hash as the number of paws on trail equaled the number of feet in the pack.

On On!

P'tooey
